Transportation and Communication
International Transportation
Linked to over 60 cities in the world, Beijing is one of transportation hubs in the world. Close to 3000 international flights arrive and depart Beijing every week. Beijing is also connected to Europe and other Asian countries by railway. In addition, around 1000 domestic flights cover 140 cities with Beijing in the center.
Local Transportation
Within the city, transportation is made very convenient with the subway, light rail, public buses and taxis, which form a network reaching every part of the city.
Beijing Capital International Airport is to the northeast of the city, 35km to downtown and 20 km to the proposed site of the Congress venue (BICC). Taxis are always available at the airport whenever there are flights. There are shuttle buses from the airport to the main points of the city every half an hour. The cost of a taxi from the airport to the Congress site or Congress hotel is about 100 YUAN (RMB) or 12 US dollars. Airport pick-up will be arranged before the start of the Congress at a reasonable cost for the convenience of the delegates.
There are bus stops around the BICC area. There is a double-decker bus line going to downtown, an air-conditioned bus line going through downtown to the Temple of Heaven, and several bus routes going to different parts of the city and subway stations. Taxis are the most convenient and time-saving, and most taxis are equipped with GPS and wireless communication equipment for the benefit of passengers. As part of the preparations for the 2008 Summer Olympics, Beijing is going to expand its public transportation network. The subway network is projected to expand from the current 114 km to 481.2 km by 2015. Courtesy buses will run between the BICC and the official ICPP 2013 Hotels during the Congress.
Communication
The international communication facilities in Beijing have been developed rapidly in recent years. The coming of the "digital era" has narrowed the distance between various countries. It is easy for people all over the world to exchange information. China's technology is catching up with advanced international standards. ChinaNet and nine other large internet service providers have joined the internet. Telephone, fax and e-mail are all very convenient. In addition, live broadcasts through hand-held phones are available. There is no problem with communication and information transfer during the conference. We will do our best to provide the best communication facilities for the ICPP in 2013.
