Congress Venue
All congress related activities will be held at the Beijing International Convention Center (BICC). BICC is located in the leisure and meeting city of the Asian Games Village, which is within walking distance of the Olympic Village, currently under construction for the Olympic Games in 2008. It is nine kilometers away from the famous Tiananmen Square, the center of the city, and twenty kilometers away from the Beijing Capital International Airport. BICC is close to popular shopping centers, entertainment hotspots, restaurants, and sporting facilities. From BICC it is convenient to get to some of the Beijing's world famous attractions: the Summer Palace, the Great Wall, and the Ming Tombs.
BICC is the second largest convention facility in Beijing, which specializes in staging national and international conferences, exhibitions and other large events. BICC has been awarded the title of Best Venue for hosting International Conferences.
BICC has simultaneous interpretation systems, large film and slide projection screens, stereophonic sound systems, and well-controlled lighting. It comprises more than 41 conference halls and meeting rooms as well as dozens of offices, suitable for a wide variety of purposes such as plenary sessions, concurrent sessions, round-table talks, and small-group meetings. The principal hall, Conference Hall No.1, has a seating capacity of 2,300 persons in theater style. BICC has an exhibition hall with an area of 6888 square meters. The indoor exhibition halls and other exhibition space can accommodate 300 international standard exhibition booths, which can be used for poster sessions and exhibition of books. The spacious registration hall, along with the public and VIP lounges and bars located on each floor, are all designed to ensure an enjoyable stay for congress participants. BICC is within walking distance to a wide range of facilities including a shopping center, a post office, restaurants, fast-food outlets, and a recreational club with bowling, swimming pool and billiards.
Many large-sized international conferences with over 2000 participants have been held here, such as the 19th International Congress of Entomology in 1992 and the 15th International Plant Protection Congress in 2004.
