China
Situated in East Asia, with a territory of about 9.6 million square kilometers and a written history of 4000 years of civilization, China boasts one of the most significant cultures in the world. As one of the largest countries by land mass and the most populous nation on earth, China has overtaken the UK and France as the fourth largest economy in the world after USA, Japan and Germany, the foreign exchange reserves have surpassed 120 billion US dollars. Rapid and substantial progress has been made in the areas of transportation, communications, banking, postal service and energy resources. China has also made notable achievements in the fields of technology, education, culture, health and sport. China's comprehensive national strength has been greatly enhanced.
China is home to 1.2 billion people of 56 ethnic groups. China, also ranks first in agricultural population. In spite of shortages of water, China has to feed a quarter of the world's population from just 7 percent of the world's arable land. Chinese agriculture is the basis of its domestic economy. Given these circumstances, China must vigorously accelerate the development of agriculture.
